Toshihide “Tony” Nakamura
Sensei Nakamura has trained karate in 1989 and has won several national and international tournaments in the collegiate and adult divisions. Consistently a candidate for the JKA USA national team since the mid-90s, Nakamura was selected to join the US team in 2008, 2014, and 2017. In 2014, he was a part of the US Men’s Team Kata, which placed 6th in the at 2014 World Gichin Funakoshi Cup held in Tokyo, Japan. This success was followed by winning 2nd place at 2016 JKA South American Championship in Team Kata. He finished his competition career after attending 2017 JKA World Championships.
To freely train and learn from all martial artists without restriction, Nakamura resigned from the JKA in 2022. He also founded the Hu Shin Kai Karate Association to challenge the commonly practiced Karate framework and standards to provide better Karate. After attaining the JKA 5 Dan in his early 30s, he has freed himself from the Dan ranking, as he questioned the value of Dan ranks in Karate-Do for himself. He currently claims to hold no rank for himself.
His dedication and passion for teaching is demonstrated by the growth seen in his students of all ages, children, adults, and seniors, as well as various competition levels. He sends the Hu Shin Kai members periodically to Japan to train to feel the direct environment of Japanese Karate.
